The Becker-Big Lake hockey team hosted the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm Dec. 16, falling short of victory in a 7-3 loss.
After falling 2-0 in the first period a pair of goals by Weston Schug, Aubry Hartfiel assist, tied the game just four minutes into the second. Four goals from the Storm put the Eagles in a 6-2 hole when the final period began.
After some failed shots against Sauk Rapids-Rice, the Eagles’ Garrett Anderson cut the deficit to 6-3. But a late goal from Sauk Rapids-Rice extended an already solid lead and ended the game with the Eagles falling short.
Becker-Big Lake would be handed a total of 12 minutes for penalties on six minor infractions, Sauk Rapids-Rice had 10 minutes for five infractions.
Tending the goal for the Eagles was Caden Weber, who faced 27 total shots, saving 20 the entirety of the game. The Eagles had 18 total shots against Sauk Rapids-Rice.

The Eagles hosted the Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake Moose Tuesday, being soundly defeated 10-0.
The Moose, put the Eagles down 3-0 after the first period, and further in the hole with five more goals in the second, and finished the Eagles off with two more in the third.
The Eagles would have significantly more shots against the Moose with 37 total. Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake took only 18 shots against both Eagles goalies Weber and Zach Piehl, with Weber saving eight of 16 and Piehl saving 0 of 2.
Six penalties for a total of twelve minutes were served by both teams with the Eagles accounting for four infractions.

In their final home game of 2016, the Eagles hosted the Mora-Milaca Mustangs Thursday and was handed their 4th straight loss with the Mustangs beating the Eagles 6-3.
After five unanswered goals from Mora-Milaca in the first two periods of the game, power plays by Murnane (Hartfiel assist), Hartfiel (Anderson assist), and Schug (Doran assist) cut the Eagles’ deficit in half by the end of the second period.
However, one more goal from the Mustangs would finish out the game, giving the Eagles their 6th loss of the season.
A total of 22 minutes on 8 infractions were handed to both teams, with Becker-Big Lake receiving three of those.
The game saw a relatively even defense with goalie Piehl saving 17 of 23 shots and Mora-Milaca facing 19 shots, saving 16. Neither team relied heavily on their goalie.
Now 6-2, the Eagles participate in a tournament in Spooner, WI before resuming their regular season at Litchfield Jan 3. They return home to play Eveleth-Gilbert Jan. 13.
The team stands at 2-6, and sits at the bottom of the conference standings with three losses against conference rivals. Pine City holds the top, undefeated.
