The Becker-Big Lake Eagles hockey team faced the now 4-1 St. Paul Highland Park Scots at home Tuesday, and fell short, 8-3.
The first period came and went relatively uneventful scoring-wise, with one goal by the Scots at 4:37. Three penalties were handed to the Eagles in the first period and two to St. Paul Highland Park.
The Eagles rallied to tie the game 1-1 early in the second with a goal from Ryan Murnane, assisted by Alec Doran. Two more goals by the Scots got the Eagles down 3-1, but Weston Schug and Corbin Kollar helped the Eagles close in 3-2 with a goal to close out the second period.
It was a downhill slide for the Eagles as four more goals against them put them at 7-2 with the third period coming to an end. Max Nelson, assisted by Schug and Murnane gave the Eagles one more goal, but it was too little, too late, and the Scots put in one more goal to seal an 8-3 win.
Zach Piehl spent a majority of the time in the goal with 45:08 and saved 29 of 36 shots against him. Caden Weber, a new goalie for the Eagles, saw just under six minutes on the ice, and in that time, he saved four of the five shots against him.
The Eagles faced 41 shots at their goal, and only managed 26 against St. Paul Highland Park.
Off to a rough start, the Eagles, though 1-2, are hoping for a turnaround when they face the 0-2 Dodge County Wildcats, away, Saturday at 3 p.m..
