The Eagles faced Moose Lake in the first round of the Section 5A tournament Tues and lost in a double overtime, 5-4. The Eagles were the eighth seed, while Moose Lake was the ninth seed, with 10 teams total.

 

Aubrey Hartfiel put the Eagles on the board first with a goal at 2:26 in the first period. Within two minutes of that goal, Moose Lake scored twice and ended the period with a 2-1 lead over the Eagles.

 

Hartfiel would score again for the Eagles, tying the game 2-2 early in the second period. Alec Doran and Weston Schug assisted with the goal. Moose Lake would score twice more, ending the period with a 4-2 lead.

 

Hartfiel, with an assist from Schug both times, scored two goals for the Eagles, tying the game and leading to overtime. After no score in the first overtime, the game went to a second overtime, and Moose Lake scored a game-winning goal, moving on to face Monticello-Annandale, the number one seed in the section.

 

Caden Weber tended the goal for the entire time of play, a total of 66:42. The Eagles had 28 shot attempts against Moose Lake, while Weber faced a total of 48, saving 43.

 

The Eagles served 12 minutes on six minor infractions, while Moose Lake served eight minutes on four infractions.

 

The Eagles saw an improvement from previous seasons. The 2015-2016 season had a 4-19-2 record with five fewer skaters than this season, which was 7-18-0. 

 

Schug led the team this season with 30 goals, three of which were game-winning, Murnane had 14 goals this season and Hartfiel 10. Hartfiel had the most assists this season with 21.

 

Goalie Zach Piehl faced 861 shots on goal this season, saving 727. Weber faced 87 shots this season with 64 saves.
