Eagles Down 3, Looking For Win Next Week

The Eagles hoped to turn their season around in front of the home crowd Saturday but fell short to the Northwest Icemen in a 5-2 loss.
 
Facing a two-point deficit by the middle of the second period, the Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard with a Weston Schug even-strength goal, assisted by Caden Weber. Northwest Icemen doubled their score before the end of period two, putting the Eagles in a 4-1 hole.
 
AJ Bruntock would help the Eagles cut their deficit 4-2 with an even-strength goal halfway through the third period, assisted by Matt Cichy. Northwest Icemen would score once more against Eagles’ Zach Piehl, wrapping up a 5-2 win over the Eagles. Becker-Big Lake’s current loss streak extends to four games, the season at 4-13.
 
Piehl faced 34 total shots during the game's entirety, saving 29. The Eagles attempted18 total shots against the Icemen. Sixteen minutes were served on four infractions by the Eagles, one that included misconduct in the third period.
 
Tuesday, The Eagles faced off against conference rival Mora-Milaca. After a slow start, the Eagles were able to tie but were eventually outscored by the Mustangs, 5-3.
 
Within the first eight minutes of the first period, Mora-Milaca put up a sizable 3-0 lead. Ryan Murnane, assisted by Aubrey Hartfiel and Alec Doran, began the Eagles comeback with a power-play goal to put Becker-Big Lake on the board late in the first.
 
With momentum entering the second period, The Eagles tied the game at 3. The first goal came from Weston Schug, assisted by Murnane and Hartfiel. The second goal was scored by Travis Ferris, assisted by Murnane.
 
The game would remain tied at 3 until late in the period with a few seconds left, then the Mustangs retook the lead, 4-3. With one second left in the third period, the Mustangs would fit in one final goal against the Eagles, and end the game with a 5-3 loss for Becker-Big Lake.
 
Piehl tended the goal for the Eagles the entire game, saving 34 of 39 total shots. The Eagles would have 30 total shot attempts against Mora-Milaca.
 
The Mustangs hold 2nd place in the Two-Rivers conference standings with a 6-1 record against conference rivals, Pine City (7-1) holds first place. The Eagles are 5th of 6 total teams in the conference at 1-6. Their entire season is 4-14.
