Eagles Beat Moose Lake To End Losing Streak

The Eagles ended their losing streak Thursday and dominated in front of their home crowd with an undisputed 6-0 win over Moose Lake.
 
After a scoreless first period, Weston Schug put two goals on the board for the Eagles, assisted By Ryan Murnane both times. Alec Doran would also score in the first, assisted by Luke Mehelich. The Eagles were up 3-0 by the end of the second period.
 
In the third period, that 3-0 score would be doubled. Aubrey Hartfiel  scored first in the period, assisted by Murnane and Schug. Mehelich scored, assisted by Doran, and Murnane also scored, assisted by Hartfiel. 
 
This would end the game with the Eagles’ fifth win of the season and first shutout in their favor. The Eagles had 33 shot attempts against Moose Lake, while goalie Piehl faced 30 shots, saving all of them.
 
The Eagles served only four minutes on two minor infractions, the lowest this season.
 
With five games remaining in the regular season, the Eagles’ season is 5-15, an improvement over last year, which was 4-19-2. 
 
The Eagles’ next matchup is today against Wadena-Deer Creek, followed by games at Legacy Christian Tuesday and against Bagley/Fosston Friday.
 
North Branch 9, Eagles 0
In a devastating loss, the Eagles hosted North Branch and were blown out of the water with a 9-0 loss Tuesday.
 
North Branch began their untested conquest of the ice with a late first-period goal, then extended their lead 7-0 with six goals in the second period, and finishing off the Eagles with two more goals in the third and final period.
 
The Eagles served eight minutes on four minor infractions, which included cross-checking, holding, and roughing. North Branch served six minutes on three penalties.
 
Zach Piehl manned his post at the goal all 51 minutes of play, facing 40 total shots, saving 31. The Eagles would only manage 13 shot attempts against North Branch.
