The Becker Dazzlers dance team traveled to Detroit Lakes Saturday for their first competition of the season.
The team had a good showing at this meet with a first place finish for varsity jazz, second place for JV jazz, and third place for both varsity kick and JV kick.
JV Kick
The Dazzler JV Kick squad started the day with a fun, high energy routine.
"This was the first time competing at the high school level for most of this team,” said Coach Fischer-Danzeisen. “They did a great job getting over the jitters and performing and entertaining the crowd.”
JV Coach Jody Lechner-Roepke agreed.
“This team really worked hard the last week to get this routine ready to perform at this competition,” Lechner-Roepke said.
Varsity Kick
The Dazzler varsity kick team was next up to compete.
“The team did a good job bringing a lot of energy to the floor,” said Coach Julie Baloun. “As a team, we need to continue to work on building stamina in order to maintain that energy all the way to the end of the routine.”
Scores increased in almost every category over last season, Baloun said. The overall total increased by 23 points over last year at the same competition.
“We are pleased with our point gain and want to continue to build on that throughout the season,” Baloun said. “There is still room for improvement in putting our best out there every single time. We will continue to work on cleaning and perfecting our routine and performing it with power and passion.”
JV Jazz
The Becker JV jazz team performed their routine to the song "Have You Ever Seen the Rain".
Much like the JV kick team, this was the first high school competition for many of these athletes. They performed very well, entertaining the crowd with an endearing routine.
“Earning second place in their first competition of the season is a great accomplishment, and something they can be very proud of,” said Baloun.
“They did a great job for their first time out,” said Fischer-Danzeisen. “I am confident that their scores will only increase as the season goes on.”
“They performed their routine very well, so this week we will be looking at ways to add in some difficulty to the routine in order to increase our scores,” said Lechner-Roepke.
Varsity Jazz
The final event of the night was Becker’s varsity jazz team and they finished the day with a powerful and difficult routine.
“The team has really worked to increase their technical and difficulty scores this season,” said Baloun. “It paid off today and they earned first place.”
Varsity jazz increased scores by 18 points over their scores at this competition last year. Half of those points came in the jazz skills categories.
“I was very impressed with how well the team performed together for the first time,” said Fischer-Danzeisen. “It appears that we'll have a very promising year, especially if we continue to have productive practices.”
Baloun, Fischer-Danzeisen and Lechner-Roepke are extremely proud and happy with the placement of the team in their first event.
“We will continue to clean our routines as well as look for ways to implement changes and improvements to increase our scores,” said Baloun.
