THE BECKER DAZZLER DANCE TEAM brought their dance camp youngsters to last week’s basketball game to perform a hip-hop routine in front of the home crowd.

Dazzlers Grooming Youth For Sport’s Future

The Becker Dazzlers dance team held their annual Hip-Hop Dance Camp Feb. 1- 3.

Twenty-three participants at this years camp ranged from preschool to fifth grade. The campers learned a hip-hop routine taught by dance team members in three short practices.  The youngsters then performed their routine at halftime of the home Becker girls basketball game last Thursday.

The Dazzlers are a self-funded high school sport.  The team typically holds three youth camps a year as fundraisers.

One of the camps is in the fall with a performance at a home football game. Another camp is in the winter (hip-hop) camp and the third is a spring/summer camp during Freedom Days.

“The camps are a great opportunity to promote dance to the youth in our community,” said Coach Julie Baloun. “It's so fun to see our team members interacting with and sharing their love for this sport with the young campers.”

Coaches Baloun and Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen are eager to see the sport of dance grow and develop and they believe one of the best ways to do that is to offer opportunities to kids at a young age.

“Not all families are able or willing to make a long term commitment to a program right away,” Baloun says. “These camps give kids the chance to try it out for a week and give parents a chance to gauge their child's interest.  Hopefully the interest continues and they register for a program like Just for Kix or a studio like Starz or when they are old enough join our team.”

The team is now getting ready for try-outs for the 2016-2017 season. The try-outs will be held Feb. 22-25 after school in the Intermediate School Gym.

Try outs are open to girls who will be entering grades seven through 12 during the 2016 -2017 school year.
