Dale Hustad Repeats As Horseshoe Champion

With cloudy and rainy skies last weekend, dozens of horseshoe enthusiasts descended upon Santiago Twp. to play in the annual Santiago Open Horseshoe Tournament.

And for the second straight year, Dale Hustad came out on top in Class A.

Alden Secord of Foley captured the Class D title with a 4-1 record and hitting 26% ringers while playing in light drizzle most of the day Saturday. Second place went to 14-year-old James Tiegs of Foley with his 4-1 record and 18% ringers.

Rob Hennek of St. Cloud had a perfect 5-0 record on the day to take the Class C title with Don Claseman of St. Cloud capturing second place with a record of 3-2.

The afternoon class resulted in Shoreview native Jeff Washburn winning Class B with a 5-2 mark and a 37.5 ringer percentage. Second place went to Shawn Warnemunde of Isanti and third went to Brain Wipper of Palmer with a 4-3 record.

Hustad’s accomplishments included hitting 46.7% ringers and tallying a 4-1 record in Class A. Bob Knudtson of Columbia Heights — winner of four previous tournaments — was second with a 3-2 record.
