Color Run A Huge Success On A Cold, Wet Morning

It was messy, but oh so fun!

That was just about everyone’s sentiment Saturday morning when just about 260 runners/walkers joined the Becker PTSA in the first ever Becker Color Run.

Typically, a Color Run is a 5K, untimed event. At each kilometer mark, runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder. Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race plastered in color.

The event planning committee wanted to keep costs low and allow entire families to participate in the run, so run registration was just $10 for those four years old and over.  Runners could opt to purchase a Color Run shirt for an additional $10.  About half of all registered runners also purchased a run shirt.

Majestic Creations in Becker and Blue Sun Designs in Mankato designed and printed the shirts.

Saturday’s race snaked through Becker Schools campus and was approximately one mile in length. Runners left the start line in waves, allowing those who were throwing the color at five separate color stations time to “apply” color to as many runners as possible.

Once the race is over, the fun continued as racers could pose for photos with various props provided by the PTSA and its volunteers.

The motto of the 2019 Color Run was, When Life Gives You Color, Run With It.

Saturday was not the most ideal weather situation for the runners as rain and cold hovered through the weekend. However, mighty and hearty as Minnesotans are, hundreds braved the elements and came away feeling plastered (by powder, of course).

The PTSA would like to thank their sponsors: Cafe Pawz, Becker Fireplace, Becker Tax Service, Schendzielos and Sons Excavating, Wruck Excavating, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate; Sandra Pudlick, Studio 5, Accurate Automotive, Insight Eye Care, Vision Taekwondo, Becker Spine, Los Ortizes, Bogart Pederson and Associates and Bab-Con Construction.

Thanks also to the Becker Police Department for supporting the event, to the Becker Fire Department for event clean up and to Huse Orthodontics for providing sunglasses to protect the runners eyes.

“I am delighted with the turn-out at this inaugural event and could not be more proud of all the efforts of PTSA members and volunteers,” said PTSA President Rochelle Ament.  “Proceeds from the event will go to support PTSA programs like GRAB-Go Read A Book, Movie Nights and other programming in Becker Schools.  Even more importantly though, I think an event like this strengthens our sense of community and belonging.”
