Canby Pitcher Wins Becker Horseshoe Tourney

Sig Armitage, the top horseshoe pitcher in Minnesota, won all seven games in Class A in the Becker tournament held recently. Sig hit ringers at a 71.07% average in the 8-man class.
 
His high game was the last game with 80% ringers, beating fourth place finisher, Jim Aleckson of Becker, 36-24. Bob Knudtson of Columbia Heights finished second with five wins and two losses, and Mark Smith of Darwin took third at 4-3.
 
In Class B, Delbert Kjarsens of Clarks Grove in southern Minnesota, won the class with six and a half wins and one half loss. John Hustings of Mahtomedi took the Class C title with a 6-1 record. Becker’s Tom Zimmerman was third with a 4-3 record.
 
Wayne Peterson of Becker was the tournament director for the April 16th event at the courts in the American Legion building.
 
Armitage, Smith, Aleckson and Ray Volkers of St. Paul will be pitching for Minnesota’s #1 team in Beloit, Wisconsin, on May 13-15. The Beliot tournament is the 36th annual team tourney featuring 20 teams from seven states in a round-robin event. Minnesota has won nine of the team tournaments in the past 35 years. It was won by Indiana in 2014 and Missouri in 2015.
