Bulldogs Win Over C I, Lose To Albany

The Becker boys baseball team split two games this past week to see their early season record even out at 2-2.

Albany 14, Becker 6

Becker traveled to Albany Thursday  and fell to the Huskies by eight.

The Bulldogs finished the game with seven hits and scored six runs, however, the difference in this game was the pitching. The Bulldogs issued 12  walks which resulted in numerous scoring opportunities that led to the 14 runs.

Becker scored two runs in the first right out of the gate and things looked positive for the hard-charging ‘Dawgs. Albany shaved that lead to one when they scored their first run in the bottom half on the inning.

In the second inning, the flood gates opened as the Huskies got runners to cross the plate seven times before Becker could notch their three outs. Albany went on to score eight more times over the course of the rest of the game while Becker was only able to tally four.

Becker’s leading hitters where Clayton Gallus, going 3-3 with a double and Tyler Thorson 2-4, one being a double.

John Mann was the losing pitcher, going 1-1/3 innings and giving up eight runs on five hits and six walks.

Albany’s Taylor Fourre got the win, going 4-1/3 innings while giving up four hits, five runs, four walks and striking out two.

Becker 2, C-I 1

Becker won their second game of the season with a very good defensive game against Cambridge-Isanti last Friday at home —  beating them by the score, 2-1.

Cody Gruenhagen  was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs, going all seven innings, giving up seven hits, notching two strikeouts and giving up just one run.

His counterpart from Cambridge Isanti was Jake Harding and he was just as effective, going the distance while giving up two runs on three hits.

Becker scored both of its runs in the fourth inning when Tyler Thorson reached base on an error and stole second. Matt Yoerg walked and both came home on a triple by Clayton Gallus.

The Bluejackets scored their lone run in the sixth inning when Nate Muehlberg drove in Connor Hanson.

Leading hitters for Becker were Andrew Stanger, going 2-2 and Clayton Gallus going 1-3 with the triple and two RBI's.

Becker travels to Little Falls Tuesday for a 5 p.m. contest and returns home Thursday for a double header against defending state champs St. Cloud Cathedral. Starting time is 4 p.m.
