BECKER’S DAWSON BROWN drove a dagger into the hearts of the Monticello Magic faithful Tuesday, nailing a three-point basket in the waning moments of Becker’s first round Section 5AAA playoff game on the road.

Bulldogs Upset Third Seeded Magic In Playoffs

The Becker Bulldog boys basketball team advanced to the section semi-finals Tuesday with a hard fought, two-point win over rival Monticello.

Becker 62, Monticello 60

Becker senior guard Dawson Brown made a three-pointer with a little more than one minute left to put the sixth-seeded Becker Bulldogs up by two at Monticello in the Section 5AAA quarterfinals.

The Magic attempted to tie or pull out the win in the waning moments, but Becker held on to beat the #3 seeded Magic on the road.

Brown finished with 21 points to lead Becker (12-15).

Senior forward Tyler Frie had 19 points for Monticello.

In Becker’s only other game against Monticello this year, the Magic cruised to an easy 15-point win Jan. 20 in Monticello behind 19 points from Frie. Dawson Brown was also the leading scorer in that game for the Bulldogs with 18.

Becker exacted their revenge in a most critical time of their schedule — a do-or-die playoff contest which sent the Magic players, coaches and fans to the off-season earlier than they expected.

With the win, Becker will take on #2-seeded Rocori in the  semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Cloud State's Halenbeck Hall.
