Bulldogs Throttle Flyers For First Win

The Becker Bulldog football team ended their two-game skid by easily defeating the Little Falls Flyers, 45-0 on the road Friday night.

First Half

The game got off to a precarious start for the visitors when QB Josh Fobbe drove the team to the Flyer 17 before fumbling the ball away on third and eight. However, Becker cornerback Adam Bauman saved the day when he intercepted a Michael Gross pass at the 50-yard line just four plays later and raced all the way to the end zone for the first score of the game.

The extra point was missed, but Becker had a quick lead at 6-0.

The second quarter saw the Bulldogs tally 19 points when QB Josh Fobbe found Lucas Dertinger from 11 yards out for Becker’s second score of the game.

The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, but Becker was ahead at 12-0 with 10:23 to go in the half.

Two minutes later, the Bulldogs marched the field again and this time Fobbe handed the ball off to Cale MacMillan, and he plunged over the goal line from one yard out to put the Bulldogs up by three scores.

Another failed two-point conversion meant Becker held an 18-0 lead with 8:26 to go.

Fobbe again got his team to the red zone late in the first half where HB Sidney Boros took the exchange and rambled eight yards to paydirt for another TD, putting Becker up 25-0 at the half.

Second Half

Becker kicked off in the second half and the defense went to work and shut down the Flyers after just three plays. The Bulldogs sealed the deal when they scored three more times to put the game on ice in the second half. The first was when Fobbe found Boros from 17-yards out for the first score of the third quarter.

Five minutes later, Fobbe found Dertinger again — this time for a 51-yard TD score and the Bulldogs were feeling pretty good about getting their first win.

A late TD at the halfway point of the fourth quarter finished the scoring as Blake Angell galloped into the endzone for a five-yard TD to complete the game’s scoring.

Becker (1-2) finished with 344 yards total, compared to Little Falls’ 144. The Bulldog defense held the Flyers (1-2) to 159 yards on the ground and -15 through the air.

Becker had 237 yards gained on the ground thanks to  Boros, who had 118 yards on 11 carries and one TD. MacMillan had 45 yards on 11 carries and one TD.

Through the air, Fobbe was five-of-nine for 94 yards and three TDs. Dertinger was Becker’s top receiver, catching two passes for 62 yards and two TDs.

On defense, Colton Demant had six tackles including three solos and three assists. Brandon Blomgren had five tackles and four others (Zach Halvorson, Frankie Baker, Dertinger and Jayden Gruba) each had four.

Bauman had the big interception for 50 yards and a TD in the first quarter.
