The Becker boys basketball team went 1-1 this past week, beating the Sartell-St. Stephens Sabres last Friday and losing to the Monticello Magic Tuesday.
The other game scheduled this week — Thursday at home against Foley — will be published in next week’s Citizen-Tribune.
Bulldogs 84, Sabres 65
The Bulldogs destroyed the Sabres last Friday night at home, jumping out to a 50-25 lead in the first half, then coasting the rest of the way.
Leading the Bulldogs in scoring were Hunter McCalla and Jack Conzemius, who each had 15 points in the win. Dawson Thom added 14 and Lucas Dertinger 13 as the Bulldogs won their 13th game of the season.
Thom’s break-out performance included leading the team in rebounds with eight and notching two assists as well.
Sartell-St. Stephen was led by Trent Meyer, who tallied 16 points. Preston Simpson added 13.
Becker scoring: McCalla 15, Conzemius 15, Thom 14, Dertinger 13, Brandon Gustafson 8, CJ Howard 7, Tyler Lindquist 7, Tyler Wasserbauer 3 and Justin Kringler 2.
Sabres scoring: Meyer 16, Simpson 13, Brandan Walz 9, Eric Markman 7, Chris Belling 7, Thomas Gleske 6, Ethan Stark 5 and Ryan Fernholz 2.
Monticello 64, Becker 58
In a closely-contested game Tuesday in Monticello, the Bulldogs got great scoring from all five starters, but couldn’t contain Monticello’s Matt Todd, who converted 11 of his 20 shots from the field and was flawless at the free-throw line (9-for-9), finishing the game with 31 points.
Dertinger was on fire as he notched 21 points in the loss. He was followed by Gustafson and Conzemius, who each tallied 11 points.
Monticello not only got superb scoring from Todd, but they got a nice game from Rezi Useh, who scored 11 points with one made three-pointer and made all four of his free-throws.
Becker dropped to 13-10 while the Magic climbed to 10-13.

Monticello scoring: Todd 31, Useh 11, Austin Puppe 9, Gabe Severson 9 and Tommy Blackstone 4.
