The Becker Bulldog football team improved to 3-2 with their third straight win, a four-touchdown thrashing of the Foley falcons Friday night on the road. Final score, 28-0.
Lucas Dertinger scored a couple TDs and converted all four extra point attempts as the offense did just enough to capture the win, while Hokan Bengtson’s defense grabbed their second shutout of the year.
Friday was Foley’s Homecoming game and Becker silenced the Flyer fans with their third win in a row.
Unexpectantly, the Flyers opened the contest by attempting an on-side kick which failed when it rolled out-of-bounds at Becker’s 46 yard line. It didn’t take QB Josh Fobbe and company very long to light up the scoreboard as Sidney Boros and Cale MacMillan took handoffs from their QB and marched the squad to the 13 yard line in six plays.
Fobbe capped off the drive by finding Lucas Dertinger in the deep corner of the endzone for a TD.
The rest of the first half was anticlimactic as both team’s defenses buckled down and stopped drives. Four drives of Foley’s ended with three punts and an interception. Three Becker drives ended in two punts and one on a failed fourth down try.
Foley’s Hunter Beehler finished the game with five punts that accumulated 130 yards and drove the Bulldogs deep into their own end.
The third quarter was much of the same for the home team as QB Simon Bryce struggled through the air and Becker’s D-line and linebackers swallowed up the Flyer runners throughout the game. Bryce finished with just five passing yards on seven attempts.
Following another Beehler punt just a minute-and-a-half into the third, Fobbe conducted a drive that was capped off by Dertinger’s second TD of the game, this time from 10 yards out.
Becker’s defense stood tall once again and Foley booted the ball back to the Bulldogs after eight plays.
The ‘Dawgs sealed the deal four plays later when MacMillan scored from six yards out to go up 21-0.
With 11:20 left in the game, Zach Halvorson intercepted another Bryce pass at the 37-yard line and Fobbe made them pay when he slid the ball to MacMillan for a 12-yard gain. Two plays later, Boros broke through the line and carried the pigskin 53 yards to paydirt to complete the scoring on the night.
Becker finished with 312 total yards, 249 of those on the ground. The defense held Foley to just 149 yards total. They also tallied five sacks of Bryce, including two by Nick Radunz.
MacMillan had 94 yards and one TD on 13 carries. Boros had 151 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown.
Dertinger finished with 31 yards receiving on three catches and two TDs.
