Bulldogs shoot down Stars, 48-0

The Becker Bulldog football team improved to 3-0 with an impressive smothering of the Holy Angels Stars last Friday in a game held at Dwight Lundeen Stadium.

Becker completely shut down the Stars’ passing game allowing zero yards in the blowout contest. Holy Angels QB attempted just one pass and the ground game was stifled as well — as Becker limited them to just 167 yards.

Becker, meanwhile, amassed 318 total yards - gaining 210 on the ground and 108 through the air.

Isaiah Gardner stood out as Becker’s star, gaining 67 yards in the running game and 34 in receiving yards. He scored twice on runs of 42 and seven yards late in the game when it was all but determined by halftime. Gardner also had a kickoff return of 25 yards to put a cap on his day.

Becker began the contest with RB Owen Angell rambling 41 yards in the first quarter to put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. Later in the first, Kyan Blomquist pulled in a 19 yard pass from Zach Bengtson to make it 14-0.

The second quarter saw just one score, and that was Becker’s Cody Klatt, who galloped into the end zone from eight yards out to make the score 21-0 at halftime.

Grayson Kipka extended Becker’s lead to 28-0 in the third quarter when he escaped the line of scrimmage and scampered 41 yards for another Bulldog score. Moments later, Blomquist notched his second TD reception, this time from eight yards out to run the score to 35-0.

That led to Gardner’s two TD runs in the fourth and Becker’s favorite team sent the fans home with beaming smiles.

Bengtson was nearly perfect through the air, as he completed 10 of his 11 passes for 108 yards and two TDs. He also ran the ball three times for 12 yards and converted six of his seven  PAT attempts.

On defense, Landen Kujawa was flying all over the field, making nine tackles including one tackle for loss and three assists. Kaden Nicolas was also instrumental in keeping the Stars at bay with his seven tackles and three assists.

Mason Nevala had five tackles, one assist, one sack and two tackles for loss.

The Bulldogs capitalized on four turnovers for the Stars.

Up next is a road game for Becker against Willmar, who is on a two-game losing streak and sitting at 1-2.
