Against two formidable foes, the Becker Bulldogs boys basketball team dropped two games this week.
Magic 107, Bulldogs 104
In an epic battle between two solid teams, the Bulldogs and Monticello Magic faced off against each other last Saturday in Becker and scored a combined 211 points.
Monticello’s senior guard Matt Todd scored 36 points, had eight assists and four steals to lead the Magic to the three-point win.
Becker’s Lucas Dertinger scored 40 points and had three assists. Three other Bulldogs were in double figures including Brandon Gustafson (24), Caleb Quernemoen (16) and Sam Ricker (13).
Also scoring in double figures for the Magic were Rezi Useh (22), Carson Sawatzke (17), Blake Thompson (11) and Austin Puppe (10).
The Bulldogs shot 53% from the field including going 12-of-28 from the three-point line. They were also 18-of-25 from the charity stripe. Becker had nine rebounds, four fast break points, 15 second chance points and scored 14 points off turnovers.
Monticello shot 51% from the field including 12-of-23 three-pointers and were 17-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Magic had nine rebounds, 22 fast break points, 10 second chance points and tallied 25 points off Bulldog turnovers.

Monticello scoring: Todd 36, Useh 22, Sawatzke 17, Thompson 11, Puppe 10, Tommy Blackstone 5, Austin Wetter 4 and Logan Wetter 2.
Cathedral 84, Becker 52
Tuesday, the Bulldogs traveled to St. Cloud to take on Cathedral for a 7:15 p.m. matchup. The Bulldogs got destroyed by 32.
Dertinger again led the Bulldogs in scoring, tallying 14 points. He also had three steals, two assists, five rebounds and one blocked shot.
Cathedral was led by Michael Schaefer, who notched 24 points, two steals, five assists and had eight rebounds.
Becker struggled from the field, shooting just 33% on 19-of-58 shooting. Their free throws were good (12-of-16) but didn’t compare to the 21-of-28 that Cathedral tallied. The Crusaders went 27-of-51 for a shooting percentage of 53%.
Becker finished with six fast break points, 15 second chance points, five team rebounds and scored 14 points off turnovers.
St. Cloud scored 12 fast break points, 13 second chance points, had six team rebounds and scored 20 points off of turnovers.

Cathedral scoring: Schaefer 24, Jackson Jangula 13, Nick Schaefer 13, Mitchell Plombon 12, Jacob Stoltzenberg 6, Sam Schneider 6, Jake Meyer 3, Will Kranz 3, Mason Wolf 2 and Patrick Tollefsrud 2.
