Bulldog swimmers down Hornets

It was a typical high energy swimming meet last Thursday as the Becker Bulldogs and Big Lake Hornets faced off, and this time Becker came out with the convincing win, 103-84.

The Bulldogs managed wins in all of the swimming events, while Lauren Woelfel placed second in diving.

Grace Mork paced the Bulldogs with three first place finishes, including in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and as a member of the 200 Freestyle Relay (with teammates Grace Wynia, Josie Reckelberg and Laila Cook).

Wynia added a win in the 50 Freestyle, while Cook was also a three event winner, claiming the top finish in both the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Butterfly.

Reckelberg added a win in the 100 backstroke, while Joey Cox swam a great race to win the 200 Individual Medley.

Elin Cook won the 500 Freestyle for the Bulldogs and Cox teamed up with Cook, Astrid Faul and Kayleigh Duke to claim the top spot in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Milaca

Last Saturday, Becker finished third in the Milaca Invite where medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each event.

“We have quite a few girls come home with hardware,” Coach Tina Tamm said.

Mork took second in the 200 free and first in the 500 free, while  Wynia was second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke.

Cook took second in the 100 butterfly and first in the 100 breaststroke, while Woelfel was again second in the diving competition.

Wynia, Reckelberg, Cook and Mork received a medal for placing third in the 200 free relay and second in the 400 free relay.

“Gabby Barthel-Scott had the biggest time drop of the day with the 11 second time improvement in the 200 free,” Tamm added. “Brianna Dahle added another event to her Section list by qualifying in the 200 IM.”

Overall, Tamm was pleased with her team’s efforts over the past week.

“Both meets provided some really good races,” Tamm said. “It’s always fun when the races are close and the girls have to give it all they have to get the win.”
