Bulldog boys use stellar shooting to secure wins

Timely shooting led to a pair of winning performances for the Becker Bulldog boys basketball team last week, as they defeated two quality opponents. They followed that with a Tuesday night victory over another M8 opponent, Chisago Lakes.

Last Thursday, the team shot 51% from the field to down the Willmar Cardinals, 72-50.

The Bulldogs carved out a 35-27 halftime lead before pouring it on with 37 second half points to cruise to the win.

Becker hit 10 three-point shots to the Cardinals’ four, while the Bulldogs also enjoyed a big 23-7 advantage in transition points.

Eric Seavert was on fire, collecting 21 points, including a 4-for-5 performance from beyond the three-point arc.  Julias Hendricks joined him in double figures, as he had 16 points to help the Bulldogs with the win against a section opponent.

Defensively, Becker held their opponent to just 36% shooting.

Becker Scoring: Alex Weiss, six (four assists, three steals); Nick Berglund, six (four steals); Hendricks, 16; Ryan Bengtson, five (four assists); Hayden Harmoning, nine (four assists); Seavert, 21; Brady Paumen, four; Carter Callahan, four; Kyan Blomquist, one.

Saints

Last Friday, the Bulldogs again shot over 50%, as they cruised to an 80-65 win over the St. Francis Saints in a key Mississippi 8 Matchup.

Becker again held a big advantage from long range, hitting 10 of 23 shots from beyond the arc for a very respectable 44% from the three point line. The Saints managed just six baskets from long range.

Becker also had the advantage in the lane, scoring 44 points in the paint compared to their opponents’ 22 points.

Both teams played a clean game, as Becker had just 10 turnovers in the game, while the Saints had 11.

Becker led by just four points at the half, 46-42, but their overall depth led to the big second half and the conference win.

Seavert again paced the Bulldogs’ scoring effort, as he had 20 points on a very efficient 8-for-11 shooting performance, while Paumen (14), Harmoning (13) and Hendricks (12) joined him in double figures.

Becker scoring: Weiss, seven; Berglund, seven; Hendricks, 12; Harmoning, 13 (five assists); Seavert, 20 (seven assists); Paumen, 14 (nine rebounds); Callahan, seven.

Wildcats

Tuesday night, Becker picked up another M8 Conference win, this time downing the Chisago Lakes Wildcats, 75-49.

Becker held a slim, 24-22 halftime lead, but came alive in the second half with a 51 point offensive explosion to seal the victory.

Becker’s perimeter defense was excellent, as they held the Wildcats to 1-for-19 shooting from beyond the three point arc.

Eric Seavert just missed a triple double, as he had 10 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Becker scoring: Weiss, 17 (nine rebounds); Berglund, two; Kyle Vogl, three; Hendricks, four; Bengtson, five; Harmoning, two (nine rebounds); Seavert, 10; Paumen, nine (11 rebounds); Callahan, 13; Blomquist, 10.
