Bulldog boys improve to 14-6

The Becker Bulldogs boys basketball team pushed its record to 14-6 Tuesday night with a 73-63 win over Cambridge-Isanti.  It also pushed the team to a 7-3 record in the Mississippi 8 Conference, good enough for third place and just one half game back of Monticello, the current second place team.

Becker used its depth for a big second half defensive performance against the Bluejackets, as the Bulldogs extended their two point halftime lead through a series of defensive stops.

The Bulldogs, who average 71.4 points per game, were steady on offense, with seven different players hitting the scoring column.

Becker scoring: Alex Weiss, seven; Nick Berglund, four; Ryan Bengtson, six; Hayden Harmoning, 11; Eric Seavert, 20; Carter Callahan, eight.

Vikings

Last Friday, the boys hosted North Branch and came away with a 67-57 win over a very good Vikings team, which sat at a 14-7 record on the season coming into the game. Becker had a stellar first half, as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 38-24 lead behind a strong defensive effort and timely shooting.

Balance was the key for the team, as four players scored in double figures en route to the team’s sixth conference win of the season.

Becker scoring: Alex Weiss, 10; Nick Berglund, two; Julias Hendricks, 10; Hayden Harmoning, six; Eric Seavert, 18; Brady Paumen, 13; Carter Callahan, eight.

The Bulldogs were scheduled for a pair of tough games at the end of this last week, as they traveled to St. Cloud Tech for a Thursday night matchup before hosting a Friday night game with Princeton, a state ranked team who sits atop the M8 Conference with a 11-0 record (19-1 overall).

After that, the Bulldogs have three more regular season games before they will enter the Section playoffs.
