Bulldog boys drop two to Tigers

The Becker Bulldog boys basketball team had its five game winning streak broken last Thursday with a 89-60 loss to St. Cloud Tech Tigers. The next night, Becker fought valiantly against #4 state ranked Princeton before falling to those Tigers in the last minutes of the game, 92-88.

In the loss to Tech, Becker fell behind early and found itself with a 23-40 deficit at halftime.  The Bulldogs played better in the second half, but so did the Tigers, as they extended their lead and poured in 49 more points to secure the win.

Becker shot just 35% in the game, while Tech held the advantage in points off turnovers, 25-12.

Becker also had trouble getting its transition game into gear, while Tech poured in 27 points off the fast break.

Becker scoring: Alex Weiss, nine; Nick Berglund, one; Julias Hendricks, six; Ryan Bengtson, five; Hayden Harmoning, 10; Eric Seavert, nine; Brady Paumen, 12; Carter Callahan, eight.

In Friday’s loss, the Bulldogs ran into the Mississippi 8 Conference champions who came into the game with a #4 state ranking and an 18-1 overall record. The Tigers proved their mettle in the first half as they poured in 55 points to take a 55-46 lead, but the Bulldogs stormed back in the opening minutes of the second half to put a scare into the Tigers.

“We had the lead most of the second half,” Becker Coach Josh Ihrke said.  “They (Princeton) found a way to get a few key buckets late to get the win.”

Eric Seavert led the way for Becker, netting 24 points, while teammate Brady Paumen chipped in 19 and Julias Hendricks had 18.

Becker worked hard on the glass all night at it paid off, as they out rebounded the Tigers, 33-27.

Princeton, however, won the turnover battle, committing just six to the Bulldogs’ 15.

Becker scoring: Seavert, 24; Paumen, 19; Hendricks, 18; Alex Weiss, eight; Ryan Bengtson, five; Hayden Harmoning, seven; Carter Callahan, seven.
