The Becker Bulldogs boys soccer team (6-2-4) received the fifth seed and took on No. 12 Heritage Christian Academy (5-10-1) Tuesday evening in Becker.
They lost the match in a shootout, 3-2 after 80 minutes of regulation play and two, 10-minute overtimes.
“Becker controlled the ball for 90% of the time, said Head Coach Alex Jurek. “And we volleyed shot-after-shot against the keeper, but could not put the ball in the net.”
The Bulldogs outshot Heritage Christian Academy 16-2 in the first half and the result was a scoreless, 0-0 match.
The second half played much like the first, with HCA getting just three looks on goal.
After 80 minutes, the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Per state high school league rules, the teams would play a 10-minute sudden-death overtime to determine the winner.
The OT went scoreless, so the two teams faced off for another 10 minute OT.
Again, the period went scoreless which meant both teams would faceoff in a shootout to determine the victor.
Unfortunately for the host Bulldogs, HCA bested Becker by one goal, winning 3-2 and advancing to the second round of the playoffs.
With the loss, Becker’s promising season came to a heartrending halt.
