Boys Lacrosse Standing 8 1 In The Season

The Becker Bulldogs boys lacrosse team improved to 8-1 in the season with strong wins over Big Lake, Grand Rapids and Sartell in their recent matches.

May 9 saw the team at home in Eppard Field, where the Bulldogs’ defense was a problem for the Big Lake Hornets, limiting them to one goal with a 16-1 victory.

Scoring for the team was sophomore Calvin Fritsch with three goals, sophomores Jacob Eich, Carter Nue and Ethan Wilson with two goals each, and seniors Justin Reichle, Corbin Kollar, Karl Antoque, Jacob Berning, junior Jack Jones, sophomore Nate Kerzman, and freshman Ethan Anderson with one goal each.

The team headed to Grand Rapids to battle the Thunderhawks last Saturday. The game started slow, but the Bulldogs secured the win with the final score of 10-4.

Scoring for the team was Jacob Eich with four goals, Nate Kerzman with three, junior Austin Berning with two, and Calvin Fritsch with one goal.

Senior goalie AJ Buntrock had one save and two ground balls. Senior defensemen Kaj Fritsch and Carter Hanson, with junior Parker Seeley, kept the ball out of the Bulldogs’ end of the field for the majority of the game with their excellent clears.

Unfortunately, the team suffered a blow during the match when midfielder Trenton sustained a serious injury on the field and was transferred to St. Mary’s Trauma Center in Duluth after being brought to the local emergency room. See story above.

Tuesday, the team was at Sartell, where the Bulldogs shutout the Sabers with a convincing win of 13-0. The Bulldog defense continued to dominate their end of the field, allowing no shots on goal, and the offense was operating at a high caliber.

Scoring for the team for Jacob Eich with five goals, Jacob Berning with three, Austin Berning and Calvin Fritch with two, and Corban Kollar with one goal.

Calvin Fritsch won all 13 faceoff attempts.

The Bulldogs will next be playing Moorhead at home on Eppard Field May 18, at STMA May 21, and ending their regular season play at Monticello on May 23.
