The Becker Bulldogs boys golf team finished up a grueling schedule of games this week, competing on seven of the past eight days.
Last Friday the team played at Headwaters Golf Course in Park Rapids and finished the first day of the invite in 10th place. Sophomore Zach Stanz had a solid opening round shooting a 76.
Stanz also led the team with a two-day score of 163. Austin Souvert came in next with 171, followed closely by Tucker Rhodes with 175. Ethan Tobako finished with a combined score of 190, Gavin Murphy with a 192, and Brock Ramola with 234.
Saturday saw the team at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. While the weather was good on Friday, Saturday was absolutely miserable to play in, with the team battling constant rain, temperatures in the low 40’s and winds gusting over 30 mph, making it a long day.
Scoring slightly higher than they did on Friday, the team was still able to move in front of St. Cloud Cathedral and finish in 9th place with a two-day total of 699.
Zach Stanz led the team with a low score of 163. Austin Souvert was next with a score of 171, followed by Tucker Rhodes with 175. Ethan Tobako finished with a 190, followed closely by Gavin Murphy with 192, and Brock Ramola with a 234.
Monday saw the team out on the course again, this time at the GRC meet at Wapicada. The Bulldogs finished in 6th place and were led by Austin Seavert’s 79.
Zach Stanz came in next, with a score of 83. The rest of the team followed close together, with Gavin Murphy scoring a 90, Tucker Rhodes 91, Ethan Tobako 92 and Brock Ramola a 100.
Tuesday was a make-up meet and the final GRC meet of the season. Zach Stanz again led the team with a low score of 83, followed by Ethan Tobako with 84 and Austin Seavert with 85.
Tucker Rhodes finished with a score of 89, Gavin Murphy with 96 and Jimmy Braun with 128.
In spite of the windy day the Bulldogs won the meet and finished up the season in 5th place with a total team score of 2,264. Zach Stanz placed sixth individually with a total score of 410, earning him All-Conference, and Austin Seavert finished in 11th place with a score of 417, earning him an honorable mention. Ethan Tobako also finished in the top 20, placing 18th with a total score of 435.
At the Brainerd Preserve Invitational on Thursday at the Preserve Golf Course at Grand View Lodge, the team played right around their average with a 354, finishing 18th out of 20 teams.
Zach Stanz once again led the team with a low score of 85. Austin Seavert was next with an 87, followed by Tucker Rhodes with 90, Ethan Tobako with 92, Gavin Murphy with 97 and Brock Romola with a final score of 99.
“The last eight days were a tough grind, playing meets on seven of those days,” said Head Coach Dan Olson. “Memorial Day weekend is coming at the right time as I am hopeful for the kids and myself to be able to have some down time to relax.”
Wednesday the Bulldogs will head to the first day of the Section 8AAA tournament. The low six teams and 12 individuals not on those teams will advance to the second day of the tournament.
