The Becker boys golf team played twice this week, Wednesday at Elk River and Thursday at Little Falls. 

 

Becker played at Elk River Country Club Wednesday and won the Granite Ridge Conference meet with a team score of 162.  

 

Alex Stanz (37), Jackson Fluck (40), Zach Stanz (42) and Michael Sogard (43) were the four team scores that counted.

 

Brandon Abrahamson (46) and Caleb Foster (47) rounded out the rest of the team.  

 

“Elk River is a tough course that has tight fairways and postage stamp greens,” said Head Coach Dan Olson.  “The team was able to avoid the big numbers.”  

 

Becker beat Albany and Cathedral by six strokes.

 

Team Scores: 1). Becker - 162; 2-tie). Albany and St. Cloud Cathedral - 168; 4). Zimmerman - 173; 5). Little Falls - 177; 6). Milaca - 195; 7). Foley - 202; 8). Mora - 222.

 

The Bulldogs traveled to Little Falls Thursday afternoon and even though they played very well, Cathedral was just a little better.  

 

The Bulldogs finished four points behind the conference-leading Crusaders.

 

Sogard was Becker’s low shooter with a 37, good enough for second place overall.  He was followed by Alex Stanz (39), Zach Stanz (40) and Jackson Fluck (41) for a team total of 157.  

 

Vince McStott of Cathedral was the day’s medalist with a 35.

 

Rounding out the Bulldog scores were Foster with a 43 and Abrahamson with a 46.

 

Team scores: 1). Cathedral - 153; 2). Becker - 157; 3). Zimmerman - 167; 4-tie). Albany & Little Falls - 168; 6). Milaca - 180; 7). Foley - 184; 8). Mora - 199.

 

Becker hits the road next week to play at Albany Monday for a Granite Ridge Conference meet. Thursday, they head to play in the St. Cloud Country Club invite.
