JUNIOR TAILBACK SIDNEY BOROS gained 136 yards on just five carries and scored three times in Friday’s home win over Milaca on Tackle Cancer night.

Boros, Mac Millan Score Three Times Each In 54 6 Win

In a game that started with temperatures hovering around 40º and winds gusting northeasterly at 15mph, the Becker Bulldogs eventually warmed things up and burned the Milaca Wolves Friday night at Eppard Field by 48 points.

The final score was 54-6 on Tackle Cancer night.

Ex-Bulldog star Dillon Radunz was in attendance on the sidelines and encouraged his former team throughout the cold night.

First Half

The game dragged on for much of the first quarter with both teams watching their drives stall near in and around midfield. By the end of the first quarter, however, Becker wound up scoring three times even before the two teams switched sides.

At the 6:17 mark, QB Josh Fobbe dropped back to pass and faked a short dump-off to the left. He avoided a Wolf defender and turned his body to the right while heaving a dazzling pass deep down the middle of the field into the waiting arms of Adam Bauman for the first score.

The pass was 40 yards in the air and Bauman made the catch in stride at the 30 and waltzed easily into the endzone.

Becker’s second TD came when Sidney Boros recorded his first of three TDs from 61 yards out to give the Bulldogs a quick, two touchdown lead.

A minute-and-a-half later after a Milaca fumble, Boros capped off a three play drive with a 19 yard run to paydirt to kick start the rout.

With the Bulldogs up 21-0, the second quarter got underway with Becker stealing possession following a Lucas Dertinger interception. Fobbe dished the ball to Boros and MacMillan on first and second downs, then unleashed another bomb to Bauman from 39 yards out to set up another score.

MacMillan capped the drive with a one yard plunge and Becker was up by four TDs.

MacMillan would score yet again five minutes later and Boros tallied Becker’s 41st point when he scored his second TD from 54 yards out with just under two minutes left in the half.

Just before Boros’ big run, however, the game featured a strange turn of events with 2:25 to go.

On a first down at their own 33, Becker substitute QB, Bryce Boser pitched the ball to Andrew Berglund, who fumbled the ball at the 38. Fortunately, the Bulldogs hopped on the loose pigskin to retain possession — if only for a moment.

On the very next play, Boser was hit in the backfield and fumbled the ball. This time Milaca pounced on it and their offense trotted onto the field.

Two plays later, Milaca’s Kiel fumbled the ball back to Becker at the 35. Amazingly, on the very next play, Fobbe found Dertinger open over the middle, but he lost the handle and Milaca had regained possession.

The amusement continued as on the very next play, Kiel’s pass to his right was picked off by Becker’s Frankie Baker.

Five fumbles and one interception in a matter of 15 seconds.

Second Half
The home team kicked off to start the final two quarters and Milaca had no answer for Becker’s defense. They quietly went three-and-out and punted the ball back to Becker near midfield.

Zach Fisher had a nice 12-yard run on first down. MacMillan followed that up with an 11-yard run of his own and Mason Ploetz bolted through the Wolves defense for 22 more yards to put the Bulldogs in prime real estate at the five yard line.

MacMillan bashed it in from there for his third score and the Bulldogs possessed a 48-0 lead.

Milaca finally erased the “zero” when they drove from their 37 yard line to midfield before QB Blake Kiel found Kyle Kent from 31 yards out to gain the Bulldog 16 yard line. Two plays later, Kiel found Taylor Deshaw from 18 yards out to break the shutout.

The PAT was missed, but the writing was already on the wall.

Andrew Berglund topped off the nights’ scoring when he ran the ball from six yards out to earn Becker’s 54th point.

The only blemish on the night for the Bulldogs were two missed extra points. No matter, the game was no contest.

Becker improved to 4-2 while Milaca fell to 0-5. The Bulldogs were ranked #7 in Class 4A before the game and continue to move up the rankings. All the teams above Becker hold undefeated records.

The Bulldogs finished with 472 yards while the defense only gave up 59.

Boros’ big night consisted of 136 yards rushing on five carries and three TDs.
