2014 Becker graduate Bobby Lee improved his MMA record to 5-0 with a first round victory over previously unbeaten Damion Shehan of Iowa at Mystic Lake Casino last Friday.
Lee used a first round armbar after knocking Shehan down with an overhand right. It was Lee’s third win over a 3-0 opponent at the casino in Shakopee.
Lee, who until recently was fighting at 175-lbs., cut weight and is now at 155-lbs. He stands at 5’ 8” and is built like one of Michaelangelo’s sculptures of Greek Gods.
In July, Lee fought Kyle Todd and scored a TKO in the first round for his fourth win of his career. In March, he beat Alex Wiggs (Minnesota) by majority decision and in November of 2015, he won by submission (Kimura) over Codie Kahler of Forest Lake in RFA 32.
Lee, ranked #4 in the state, now has 10 wins in his career as an MMA fighter including three submissions, a decision and a TKO as a professional.
A big part of Lee’s success has been his partnership with Jiu Jitsu and MMA instructor Brock Larson and Coach Harold Hall of St. Cloud. Lee religiously trains and practices at the Performance Compound on St. Germain Street and credits their instruction and inspiration in his rising success.
RFA 45 at Mystic Lake featured a main event (Meerschaert vs. Waldon), a co-main event (Barcelos vs. Moret), two welterweight fights (Curry vs. Schuman and Neumann vs. Larson), lightweight fight (Lee vs. Shehan) and a bantamweight fight (White vs. Sanchez).
RFA 45 fight matchmaker Jeremy Bjornberg said the following of Bobby Lee:
“He (Lee) continues to climb the ladder, and he's shown he has a good chin. He's a wild striker, too; don't blink, because he always tries something crazy.” Bjornberg liked Lee’s chances with Shehan.
“Shehan has faced a few tough guys, but this is definitely a step up on a big show,” he said. “So it'll be fun to see how he handles it.”
Lee’s next fight is again, at Mystic Lake Casino Jan. 20. Lee is sponsored by Omnit but is seeking other sponsors on his quest to stay unbeaten.
