BL Legion baseball falls to St. Francis

The Big Lake American Legion baseball team lost a doubleheader at St. Francis last Thursday.

In the opener, Big Lake fell behind early and never recovered in an 8-2 loss.

St. Francis got on the board with three runs in the second inning on two walks, two hits and an error off Big Lake starter Isaiah Terlinden.

Big Lake scored its first run in the fourth. Collin Skaug singled, went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a throw and scored on another wild pitch. Big Lake had a chance to score more, but left the bases loaded.

St. Francis added three more in the fifth on an error, a walk and three singles for a 6-1 lead.

Big Lake scored its second run in the sixth. After Jaxyn Tschritter was hit by a pitch, Terlinden reached on a force play, then stole second. He scored on a double by Conner Stukenholtz.

St. Francis scored two more in the home sixth on a single, walk, passed ball and a double. That was all the scoring in the game.

Terlinden took the loss. He allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks. He struck out three. Reid Josewski  pitched one inning and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk. He struck out three.

Big Lake lost the second game, 10-5.

St. Francis went on top in the first inning with two runs on a single, walk and two-out double.

Big Lake got one run back in the home first. Tschritter walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Stukenholtz.

St. Francis scored two more in the third on two walks, a passed ball, a single and a groundout.

They added three runs in the fifth after two outs on a hit batter, two singles, a walk and an error for a 7-1 lead.

But Big Lake made it a closer game with four runs in the home fifth. Blayne Varner led off with a single and went to third on a single by Isaiah Prom. Skaug doubled home Varner.  After Tschritter walked, Terlinden reached on an outfield error, allowing Prom and Skaug to score. After Stukenholtz walked, Jeffrey Wanhala singled, driving in Tschritter to close the gap to 7-5.

But St. Francis wasn’t finished. They added two in the sixth on a single and two doubles. They scored their final run in the seventh on a walk, wild pitch and a single to make the final score 10-5.

Wanhala started on the mound and took the loss. He allowed seven runs (five earned) on six hits and six walks. He had one strikeout.

Skaug pitched two innings, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out four.

Wanhala had two hits, a walk and drove in a run.

Skaug doubled, walked, scored a run and drove in one.

Tschritter walked twice and scored two runs.

Stukenholtz singled, walked, stole a base and drove in a run.

Big Lake played doubleheaders at Hinkley Tuesday and at Monticello Thursday, results to follow next week.
