Monticello school bus involved in Tuesday accident

A three-vehicle accident Tuesday morning that involved a school bus sent one person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At approximately 7:52 a.m., at the intersection of Hwy. 25 near Co. Rd. 37 in Monticello Twp., a Volvo Truck (driven by Kevin Eugene Batten, 37 of Becker), a Dodge Caravan (driven by 44-year-old Randolph Lee Torkkola of Becker), and the IC School Bus (driven by Barry Edward Jenneke, 69 of Big Lake) were all going northbound on Hwy. 25 when they collided at the intersection.

Torkkola was transported to North Memorial Hospital while the other two drivers were uninjured.

A notice was sent out to all parents of Monticello Schools immediately via social media to inform families that no students were on the bus at the time of the crash.

The cause of the accident is under investigation and the entities assisting at the scene were Wright CSO, North Memorial, and the Monticello FD.
