Becker CC season awards

A joint awards program took place for both the Becker boys and girls cross country teams recently.

Coaches started the night off with heartfelt thank yous to both the team members and the parent supporters. 

GPA Gold Awards were passed out to the boys team from both the Mississippi 8 Conference and from the MN Coaches State Association. All Conference Academic Awards went to runners Thomas Cota, Alex Schermer, Parker Spindler, and Weston Denne. Spindler also received the Scholar Athlete patch along with All State Academic honors. 

Coach Dustin Weege made a point on how the boys team finished in the top three in almost every competition. The Bulldog boys managed to win both the Mississippi 8 Conference and the Section 5AA titles. Coach

“It was great to see the runners challenging each other and themselves to continue to improve,” Weege said. 

They were the first ever Becker Boys CC Conference champs, the first boys cross country section champs, the first ever boys cross country team to advance to the state meet, the first ever Becker boys CC team to place in the top seven of the state, and it was the first time that both the boys and girls teams advanced to the state meet in the same season. 

Team awards for the boys included: Most Valuable Teammate - Parker Spindler; Most Dedicated - Alex Schermer; Most Improved - Jonathan Drury; Rookie Award - Holden Hubbard; Bulldog Award - Alex Swanson; G.O.A.T. Award - Tanner Felton; Most Improved JrH/JV - Mason Corner; JV/JrH Rooki - Oliver Carlson; True Grit Resilience Award - Aiden Frommelt. 

For the girls, Most Valuable Player - Katelyn Brower; Most Dedicated - Lorelei Swanson; Most Improved - Anna Wynia; Rookie Award - Alyse Denne; Spirit Award - Ella McDonald. 

All seniors from both the girls and boys teams were acknowledged and celebrated. 

At the event, Coach Patrick Drury announced that he would be retiring from his eight years of coaching. Coach Weege said, “he’s been a wonderful companion and friend and he will most certainly be missed.”
