Baseball Team Bows Out Of Playoffs With Shutout Loss

The Becker Bulldogs baseball team’s season came to an abrupt end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Monticello Tuesday on the road.

Monticello took the lead on a stolen base in the first inning, scored another solo run in the third, then broke the game open with consecutive, four-run innings in the fourth and fifth.

The Bulldogs struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Monticello, committing four errors in the loss.

Alex Otto was the winning pitcher for Monticello. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over four innings, striking out seven and walking none. Thomas Van Culin threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Cameron Fischer took the loss for Becker. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out one.

Monticello scattered eight hits in the game. Ethan Bosacker and Jason Axelberg all collected multiple hits for Monticello. Tommy Blackstone and Jace Pribyl each had two RBIs.

The Bulldogs finished 6-15. Monticello has a 15-5 record and moved on to play Sartell-St. Stephen Thursday.
