Blake Angell, a senior at BHS, had an experience of a lifetime this past weekend while deer hunting up north on a family farm.
Blake believes in managing the hunting area, so he passed on a couple of bucks and a few doe the first weekend. Friday night, his patience, and choosing of which stand to sit in, paid off. After passing on 10 does, the big buck finally showed up.
Angell kept his composure, which is not easy to do when a deer of this magnitude shows up. The massive buck had 15 points, which unofficially scored in at a gross of 174 and 4/8.
The Angell family enjoys spending deer hunting week together every year, along with grandparents Debbie and Larry Stay. Since the family-party hunts, Blake was not done hunting.
Saturday afternoon, all hunters in the party chose which stands they were sitting in for the evening sit. Everyone was thinking the big one was already taken from Samantha's stand (Blake's sister’s stand who was working at college that weekend and missed out on the second weekend hunt, and which is the stand where the buck came through Friday night). Blake sat in that stand for another hunt, since no one else wanted it.
Unbelievably, out comes a doe and shortly behind was another monster buck. That buck was nice symmetrically and unofficially scored in at a gross of 148-3/8.
These are not bucks you see every year, nor do some people see in a lifetime. It was an exciting weekend and one that will not be forgotten.
