Becker sophomore Alex Stanz tied for eighth place at the 90th Minnesota State Junior Boys Golf Championship at Eagle Creek Golf Club this week.

 

Stanz shot a two-day total of 145 and ended up at one-over-par.

 

Andrew Israelson of Vintage Golf Club took home the title with a two-day total of six-under-par, 138. 

 

Stanz, an upcoming junior at Becker High School, recently finished his high school golfing season where he was instrumental in guiding the Bulldogs to the state tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan last month. Stanz is the older brother of Zach, who also is a force to be reckoned with when he grips his clubs.

 

Two years ago, the Stanz brothers took part in the World Championship of Golf tournament at Pinehurst Golf Course in North Carolina.

 

Alex played Tuesday’s round at one over as he had birdies on hole numbers two, four, nine, 13 and 15. Unfortunately he had four bogies and one double bogey, while carving out eight pars.

 

Wednesday, Alex went to two-under after four holes with consecutive birdies on three and four, but then bogied five and eight to finish his first nine at even par. Much was the same at the back nine as Alex had birdies on 14 and 18 and bogies on 12 and 17 to finish at 145.

 

Overall, Alex had nine birdies, 18 pars, eight bogeys and one double bogey. He was even par on par 3’s, four over on par 4’s and three under on par fives.

 

The tournament featured 60 golfers from all over the state of Minnesota.
