Arlene Mae Opstad (Inderrieden), 87 Big Lake, MN February 27th, 1938 – January 6, 2026

Arlene Mae Opstad (Inderrieden) passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 6th. She was born in Little Falls, Minnesota on February 27th, 1938 and grew up in St. Cloud. 

She graduated from Cathedral High School and went on to get a degree in teaching from St. Benedict’s College. She taught for several years as an elementary school teacher. 

In June of 1963, she was married to her husband and lifelong partner, Mel Opstad. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage together before his passing in 2022. In 1980, they adopted two sons from Colombia, Victor and Alex. She was full of devotion and love for her family, and was a truly dedicated wife, mother and grandmother until her last breath. 

Arlene enjoyed artwork, sewing, cats, bird watching, and spending time with family and friends. She was well known for her skill in making quilts and personalized Christmas stockings for all of her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel Opstad; parents August and Frances (Schroeder) Inderrieden; and brothers John, Robert, and Richard Inderrieden. She is survived by her sons, Victor and Alex (Angela); grandchildren Michele, Damion, Trae, Lucas, Salina, Sadie, and Etta; and great-grandchildren Beckham, Ember, and Camilla. 

Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Big Lake with visitation one hour prior to mass. Interment followed at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Big Lake.
