A crew from Landscape Structures began erecting the swing set at Eldorado Park Wednesday as the first stage of the playground area, while Robbie Kottke and Jack Helget of the Clearwater maintenance staff (at right) set stakes for the concrete perimeter curb.

Work Begins On Eldorado Playground

After years of discussions and debate about plans for Eldorado Park, things are finally beginning to take shape.

Earlier this week, the Clearwater maintenance crew began moving dirt in preparation for the new $350,000 playground area.

The playground system will feature a non-traditional rope structure and includes a double zip line that can be used by kids and adults.

The Clearwater City Council approved funds for the playground stage in July, and the parks commission has been working hard to get things done this season.

The maintenance team prepared the site for the contractor to begin installing equipment this week.

Maintenance Supervisor John Schmidt said the first phase of equipment - the swing set, arrived earlier this week.

Wednesday, a crew from Landscape Structures started erecting the swing set, with Knife River supplying the concrete for the base.

Schmidt, Robbie Kottke and Jack Helget from the city were building forms for pouring the concrete curb perimeter.

“The first pour should be Monday,” said Schmidt. “We hope to be done pouring  by the end of next week.”

He said more equipment is expected to arrive in mid-November, and the entire playground should be done by the end of November.
