‘Walk A Thon’ Fundraiser At Clearview Makes Goal

The Second Annual “Walk-a-Thon” fund-raiser at Clearview Elementary School had exceeded its goal as of Wednesday afternoon, having raised $21,291.12 according to art teacher Kathy Gerdts-Senger and PTA volunteer Debbie Erickson, who maintained a running tally as donations continued to come in throughout the day.

Results were announced daily throughout the campaign, with the total displayed on a board outside the cafeteria. The goal this year was to raise $20,000 to support classroom field trips and educational programs used to supplement the regular curriculum. Students, staff and faculty were engaged in talking with relatives, friends and neighbors about the Clearview programs and the need for their financial support.

Students from all grade levels took part in a series of events throughout the day on Wednesday, which included Frisbee games, an obstacle course and other games designed to promote physical activity.  DJ Rob Lindholm was on hand all day, donating his time and equipment to provide tunes for dancing between events.  Parent volunteers and staff were on hand throughout the day, providing direction for the games and keeping an eye on the activities on the playground.

Students competed for a variety of prizes during the event, including a chance to win a bicycle, a chance for a Rainbow Play Systems, Skatin’ Place or AirMaxx party, a Kindle® Fire and the opportunity to be “Principal for a Day” later in the year. Classrooms competed for extra recess, a picnic lunch, pajama party and a “Wacky Hair” day for their teacher.  “Hat Day” and “Storybook Character Day” were among the all-school prizes also available.

Construction
Parent volunteer Kevin Quinn conducted a tour of the building for Clear Lake Mayor Tim Goenner and Clearwater Mayor Pete Edmonson on Wednesday as well, discussing the Phase One construction plan that is expected to begin shortly.

Construction of a new gymnasium and added classrooms has been approved by the school district which can make additions of up to 15 per cent of the current structure under the “levy lease” regulations.

A referendum on the expansion of Clearview to include may take place as early as May, 2015, Quinn said.
