Starting now through early November, MnDOT will be busy removing temporary lanes, crossovers and complete miscellaneous work on segments of the single-lane closure from Clear Lake to Big Lake on Hwy. 10.
They will also be reconstructing the intersection at Hwy. 10 and Sherburne Ave. to be a Reduced Conflict Intersection (RCI) that will help decrease fatalities and injuries caused by broadside crashes on four-lane divided highways. RCIs can also be known as J-Turns or RCUTs.
Beginning Wednesday of this week, the intersection of Hwy. 10 and Co. Rd. 23/Sherburne Ave in Becker will be closed. The closure is expected to last approximately 2 weeks.
In an RCI, drivers always make a right turn, followed by a U-turn. Motorists approaching divided highways from a side street are not allowed to make left turns or cross traffic; instead, they are required to turn right onto the highway and then make a U-turn at a designated median opening. This reduces potential conflict points and increases safety. Generally, the delay caused by a signal is greater than the delay caused by the RCI.
Hwy. 10 remains an active work zone and drivers are asked to pay attention and watch for workers and slow moving equipment when navigating through the area.
