While playing a game he so thoroughly loved, Jonathan “Swanny” Swanson collapsed and died unexpectantly last Saturday while playing golf at the Chaska Town Course, in Chaska, MN.

Swanson, the Director of Business Development at Minnco Credit Union in Big Lake and Cambridge, was also the leader of the 501(C)(3) Minnco Foundation, a member of the BNI, Cambridge Lions and many others. He and his wife resided in Ramsey and they have two children together.

Swanny was born June 4, 1962 in Mankato to Dennis and Tracy Swanson and he graduated from Chaska HS in 1980. He went on to play Div. I golf at North Texas State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree. Swanny took a job as head golf professional at Purple Hawk Country Club in Cambridge and remained there for 18 years.

Swanny loved the game of golf and all other sports and was active in his kids’ pursuits of athletics. He coached his son (Matt) and daughter (Lauryn) in basketball and golf while never missing a game.

Swanson enthusiastically joined Big Lake’s golf planning committee last spring and brought new ideas to the Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf scramble. He frequently joined the chamber in their network meetings and attended the 2020 Member of the Year celebration last month as well as the chamber’s member meeting in March.

“He supported the chamber and encouraged business growth in Big Lake,” said Chamber Executive Director, Gloria Vande Brake. “We will miss him and pray for his family, friends and coworkers at Minnco.”

Swanny leaves behind his son, Matt, daughter, Lauryn and his wife of 29 years, Kathy. Survivors also inlcude his parents and two sisters (Mary and Katie).
