Schools celebrate Veterans Day

Tuesday morning marked another Veterans Day celebration for Becker Public Schools, as all four buildings hosted a celebration.

The Becker American Legion Color Guard was present to post the colors for the ceremonies, which all included educational information about the special day.

For the high school and middle school ceremonies, the BHS band and choirs performed several patriotic selections.

The featured speaker this year was 2006 Becker graduate Caleb Hansen, who joined the Minnesota Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer after high school.

He first served with the 257th Military Police Company out of Monticello, MN and later deployed to Italy in 2008 for a joint training exercise. He served in Afghanistan in 2012 and 2013 and then went to Germany in 2015 for another joint training exercise.  Hansen has also served in the 34th Infantry Division Headquarters as well as the Training Site Unit at Camp Ripley, where he is currently assigned as the Military Police Section Squad Leader with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Hansen has been a sworn, full-time licensed Peace Officer for the City of Becker since July of 2019, where he serves as the Lead Firearms Instructor, Use of Force Instructor and is certified Drug Recognition Evaluator.

Hansen challenged the students to honor Veterans, as well as being good citizens and doing good deeds to help the Becker community.

Becker Public Schools thanks Staff Sgt Hansen, the Becker American Legion and all Veterans for their past and continued service to the school and entire community.
