At Becker Public Schools, the safety and well-being of our students are of paramount importance. With a steadfast commitment to creating a secure learning environment, we have implemented a range of comprehensive measures to protect and support our students. Our mission, “Developing self-directed learners to thrive in a changing global community,” is closely aligned with our dedication to ensuring their safety.
One of our recent accomplishments in enhancing school safety is the completion of projects at each of our school buildings to upgrade our entrances, making them safe and secure. These upgrades provide controlled access points, helping to monitor and regulate entry into our facilities. We believe that secure entrances contribute to a sense of safety and provide peace of mind for students, staff, and parents.
To further bolster our commitment to safety, Becker Public Schools partners with the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office to have a School Resource Officer on-site during all hours when students are in attendance. This collaboration not only helps maintain a secure environment but also fosters positive relationships between law enforcement and our school community.
Recognizing the importance of proactive safety measures, we have implemented the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SSARS) and other reporting systems. These platforms empower students, staff, and community members to report any concerns or potential threats anonymously. By providing a safe and confidential outlet for communication, we can promptly address and respond to any issues that may arise.
Furthermore, we believe in promoting positive behavior and creating a respectful and inclusive school culture. As part of our safety initiatives, we have implemented Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS) throughout our district. PBIS encourages and reinforces positive behaviors, fostering a supportive and welcoming environment where students feel safe and supported.
At Becker Public Schools, we understand the importance of preparedness for various situations, including severe weather events. Our updated buildings are designed to provide safety during such emergencies, ensuring that students and staff have appropriate shelter and protection.
To educate and empower our students and staff on safety practices, we conduct a variety of trainings throughout the year. These trainings cover a wide range of safety topics, including but not limited to Wheels Week in the elementary schools, school bus safety training, and more. Our goal is to equip our students and staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively to any potential safety concerns.
In addition, we have taken significant steps to enhance safety during student transportation. Our buses are equipped with multiple cameras both inside and outside the vehicles. These cameras help monitor and ensure a safe environment from the moment the first child boards the bus until the last child departs, providing an added layer of security and accountability.
At Becker Public Schools, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continuously evaluate and enhance our safety protocols. We believe that a secure learning environment is essential for students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By implementing comprehensive safety measures, fostering positive relationships, and promoting a culture of respect, we strive to create a supportive atmosphere where our students can reach their full potential.
