On Thursday, Nov. 6 Judge Walter Kaminsky sentenced Jonathan James Schafer of Becker to two years in prison and 364 days in county jail with credit for 175 days served, but stayed the prison sentence, meaning he won’t have to report to prison if he follows conditions of a three-year probation. Conditions include completing chemical dependency treatment and not using alcohol or drugs.
Schafer pled guilty in September to both felony failure to stop after a collision resulting in death and fourth-degree driving while impaired. His passenger was identified as 23-year-old Julia Marie Marthaler of Nisswa.
