Nearly 20 acts took the stage at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater Wednesday night to show off their talent.
The talent show began as a way for the confirmation classes to have some fun, but was soon expanded to include the entire congregation.
To keep interest high, people were able to vote on who they wanted to see get a pie in the face at the end of the show by placing donations in jars labeled with the names of church staff. The three with the most donations would “get pied.”
To encourage people to enter the talent show, everyone who did could put their name in a drawing to be one of the pie throwers.
Hosted by Pastor Steve Timm and Doug Kantor, the show kicked off with a song from Rejoice’s praise band. There were a number of other musical acts, including singing, dancing, piano, violin, flute and guitar, as well as skits and comedy.
During one portion of the show, “Sara Miller and the Hood” got up to dance to the ever-popular YMCA, bringing the rest of the youth up with them and getting the audience up on its feet.
The talent show concluded with a humorous skit by Pastor Steve and some of the confirmation students called, “If I Weren’t a Confirmand.”
After donations in all the jars had been counted up, the “winners” of the pie contest were Pastor Steve, Sara Miller, youth and family coordinator, and Sarah Damhof.
Protective gear was donned, names were drawn to determine the lucky pie throwers, and one by one the pies were launched, a messy end to the evening.
All money raised will be used to support Rejoice’s upcoming youth missions.
