Sherburne County election officials on Wednesday recounted votes in the Baldwin City Council race and affirmed the results tabulated on election night.
The hand count focused on the second- and third-place finishers in the race where the top two vote-getters would earn a four-year term on the City Council. Scott Case finished first in the race with 1,382 votes. Unofficial results before the recount showed Alan L. Walker with 1,170 votes to 1,145 for Chase Springman.
The hand recount of 8,818 ballots resulted in Springman tallying one less vote, while Walker’s total remained the same.
The margin of victory in the City Council race was not close enough to trigger a publicly funded recount. But the County offered to pay for a discretionary candidate recount because of an election night reporting problem that prevented all votes from being properly transmitted to the Secretary of State’s office and being correctly published on their website until two days after the election.
Recounts for races in House 14B and ISD 728 are scheduled for the following:
• House 14B race recount will be Monday (Nov. 25) at 10 a.m. in the Maple Room at the Government Center in Elk River.
• ISD 728 race recount will be Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. in the Maple Room at the Government Center in Elk River.
