Palmer Twp. squeezes in one last road project for season

During their September meeting, the Palmer Township Board said they were going to tackle an issue on 52nd Ave. during the remainder of the construction season.

There was a blowout earlier in the year on 52nd Ave. They tried filling it, but it was in a similar bad state again a few weeks later. The board sent out bid requests to fix the road properly. They had heard that road work was becoming a bit scarce toward the end of the season. Knife River bid for the work came in at just over $138,000, under the board’s estimate.

The Brigg’s Creek culvert replacement is slated for the end of the month. The board acknowledged that the timing wasn’t great with school being in session, but they did not want to postpone the work for next year.

The board noted that mowing was done for the season, and brushing was nearly done.

Sheriff’s Report

Sgt. Zawacki gave the sheriff’s report for the month of August. He reported on 85 calls for service, including one DWI, a mailbox damage, one injury from a house fire, and three traffic complaints - one of which involved some ATV and dirt bike riders being reckless.

Lakes Report

The annual meeting for members of the lakes improvement committee was held in August. The members voted to set the annual fee at $74.52. There are a couple of openings on the board for anyone interested in running.

Carp traps will be set out soon.

In Other Business, the Board:

• Heard the park report;

• Reported that the Northern Reliability Project had signed permits with the township allowing the project to use township roads;

• Updated which members were allowed access to the safety deposit box;

• Heard the fire report, which included 79 calls for service.
