Palmer Twp. Changes 113th Ave. Into Minimum Maintenance Road

The Palmer Twp. Board discussed road updates and a request for a conditional use permit (CUP) during their meeting Tuesday night, which had been moved from its usual Monday time due to the Veterans Day holiday.

Road Updates

Township Attorney David Meyers gave the board an overview of the 113th Ave. minimum maintenance road resolution, explaining that doing so protects the board by telling residents it was not going to be maintained like a regular road. He recommended signage be placed on both ends of the road identifying it as such.

The road will be surveyed and the property owner along it will be sent a letter of explanation.

A motion carried approving the resolution.

Meyers informed the board the owners selling property along 49th Street SE agreed to dedicate their portion of the road to the township, which previously didn’t have a road order in place for it. A motion passed accepting the dedication.

Mitch Hoefer informed the board he was still waiting for some road signs; however, all sign posts are in place. John Herbst of Herbst Excavating updated the board on roadwork being done.

CUP Request

Steve Richardson approached the board to request a CUP for a 32’ x 37 ½’ personal storage structure on his 112th Ave. property. He explained he is looking at building in the spring, and there would only be an approximately 16% impervious surface with the construction.

Seeing no issues with the request, the board agreed to send a favorable comment to the county.

Other Business

A motion carried approving a septic variance license agreement for Carla Suckert.

Clerk Kelly McCann gave on overview of the Resolution Approving Collection of Unpaid Emergency Call Charges by Special Assessment, explaining the fire department had unsuccessfully attempted to collect fire service charges from the property owner.

A motion carried, passing the resolution.

The sheriff reported 58 calls for service for October, including 19 traffic, four citations, a theft of a hayrack and a theft of an ATV that is still being investigated.

A report was also given on the results of the speed monitor placed along 114th Ave. It showed the average speed to be 23.2 mph, which is less than the actual speed limit of 25 mph.

The next Palmer Twp. meeting will be Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
