National 4-H Week in Benton County: October 5-11, 2025

During a recent Benton County Commissioners board meeting, 4-H’er Claudia Schlough, an 11th grader from Sauk Rapids, expressed her feelings about the program. 

“4-H has had a profound impact on my life compared to any other organization I’ve been involved with,” she said. “It has taught me how to lead, how to follow, and the importance of continuous learning. Most importantly, it has encouraged me to pursue what I love.” 

Ten other Benton County 4-H’ers, grades 3-11, shared the impact of 4-H on their lives. They included, Claudia Schlough- 11th grade St. Cloud; Johnathan Mersinger- 12th  grade St. Cloud; Robert Mersinger- ninth grade St. Cloud; Mathew Mersinger- first grade St. Cloud; Eve McKay- 11th grade St Cloud; Luke McKay-eighth grade St Cloud; Ana McKay- 12th grade St. Cloud; Ava Kolbinger-sixth  grade Becker; Piper Kolbinger, 10th grade Becker, and Owen McKay- sixth grade St. Cloud.

The 4-H youth attended the Benton County Board of Commissioners meeting to request the signing of a proclamation declaring October 5-11, 2025, as 4-H Week throughout Benton County. They encouraged all citizens to recognize the significant impact 4-H has made and continues to make by empowering youth. 

National 4-H Week is celebrated from October 5-11, with the theme “4-H Beyond Ready.” This theme emphasizes building a generation prepared for a world of change. 4-H equips youth with essential skills for the future while meeting them where they are today.
