DANGEROUS WATERS. Princess Ariel (Ellie Schwartz) enters into a dangerous bargain with Ursula, the Sea Witch (Mary Goenner) in the Becker Middle School production of Disney's The Little Mermaid® Jr., which opens a three day run in the BHS auditorium at 7 p.m. Fri., March 14.

Middle School Mermaid® Opens Next Week

Cast and crew are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the Becker Middle School production of The Little Mermaid® Jr. which opens a three-day run in the Becker High School auditorium next week.

The production is a slightly shortened version of the wildly popular stage show that is currently playing in the Twin Cities venues, and in theatres and performing arts centers around the country.

The musical is the story of Ariel (Ellie Schwartz), a mermaid princess who is the daughter of Triton, the King of the Sea (Bryce Boser), who longs for Prince Eric (Evan Schafer), who is unfortunately a dry-land mortal.  Ursula, the sea witch (Mary Goenner) has a deal for her, but it could all end in tears if she can’t win a kiss from the prince in three days, as she will be Ursula’s slave if that happens.

The musical score features many familiar tunes, including Kiss the Girl and Under the Sea.  Direction is by Greg Lynch, with set design by Rich Kimmerle, who regular theatergoers will recall as being the designer of the spectacular sets in Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat, the BHS fall musical.

A number of technical “special effects” are planned for the show, but cast and crew have been tight-lipped about the nature of these mysterious events that have been built into the script by the production team.

The show opens at 7 p.m. Fri., March 14 in the BHS auditorium. There will be a 4 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. evening show Sat., March 15 and a 2 p.m. closing matinee on Sun., March 16.

Tickets are available in the activities office at BHS, and in the main office at Becker Middle School, cost is $8 for adults, $6 for students, with matinee tickets for children age 10 and under available for $3 on both days.  The remaining tickets will be available at the door for each performance.
