Memorial Day services all around the area

Memorial Day Monday is more than just a day off of work..it’s an important day to honor and mourn the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces.

Local Legions and organizations have many services arranged on routes that visit gravesites, cemeteries and war memorials.

Big Lake

Big Lake will have a 9 a.m. service at the war memorial along Hwys. 10 & 25. Then, there will be a cemetery service at 10 a.m. Organizers have arranged to have a bagpipe player at each service. Lunch will follow at Lions Park in Big Lake Twp. Also, a Beautiful 1960s Patriotic-Themed Fire Truck will be on display all day in front of Third Rail Bar and Grille.

Becker

The Becker American Legion will visit the Elk River Bridge on Co. Rd. 24 at 8:30 a.m. then move on to the Snake River Cemetery at 9 a.m. From there, they will visit Santiago Reeds Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. and South Santiago cemetery at 10 a.m. The final two stops are at the Danish Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. and the Becker Cemetery at 11 a.m. The Becker Auxiliary will provide lunch from noon until 2 p.m. at the Becker Legion Hall.

Clear Lake/Clearwater

The graveside services for Clear lake/Clearwater start at 9 a.m. at the St. Marcus Cemetery then proceeds to the cemetery on Hwy. 10 near Clear Lake at 9:15 a.m. At 9:45 a.m., they visit the Highland Cemetery in Hasty followed by a visit to Mt. Hope Cemetery at 10 a.m. At 10:15 a.m., the Legion visits St. Luke’s Cemetery before heading to Acacia Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.

A brief ceremony will be held at Clearwater Legion with lunch provided.
