During their meeting Wednesday night, the Clear Lake City Council discussed the off-sale liquor license requested by O’ Brothers Wine and Spirits, who will be opening a liquor store in the old bank building off Hwy 10.
Tim Ferrell and Dave Miller attended the meeting to answer questions. The only one asked was concerning potential signage, which they plan to erect in the same locations as the bank had.
A motion carried approving the license. Ferrell and Miller indicated they hoped to be opening in early 2019.
Land Sale
Clerk Kari Mechtel informed the council an individual had come in expressing interest in purchasing the 2.26-acre property the city owns on 70th Ave.
After discussing costs, the council determined they would sell the property for $50,000, which includes the city’s attorney and survey costs.
Council Member Dale Powers suggested the staff look at using the money that will potentially be received for a capital purchase in need of funding rather than just putting it into the general fund; council members agreed.
Mechtel will follow up with the interested party.
Resolutions
Mechtel informed the council she had received all the costs associated with clean up that had been needed on a city property, which will be assessed on the owner’s property taxes. A motion carried approving Resolution 18-12 Assessment of Abatement Charges.
A motion carried approving Resolution 18-13 Unpaid Water and Sewer Charges, which will be assessed on the negligent owner’s property taxes.
Other Business
Public Works Supervisor Dustin Luhning informed the council the electrical work would be completed in the public works building by the end of the week.
Luhning told the council City Engineer Keith Yapp had requested they set up a workshop to discuss the well project in the near future. After a brief discussion, a couple dates were chosen for consideration; Luhning will forward on to Yapp.
