Gop Rallies In Becker For Local Convention

Sherburne County Republican activists and politicians gathered Saturday at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker to decide on delegates to the congressional district and state Republican conventions and to adopt a platform that will inform the work of platform committees at the state and national conventions.

The convention ran very smoothly and attendees were treated to coffee, juice and rolls for the three-hour gathering.

Tom Emmer, Phil Krinkie, John Pederson and Rhonda Sivarajah are vying for the 6th District congressional slot (for retiring Michelle Bachmann) and they  had their entourages at the meeting Saturday, handing out printed materials and displaying signs. Chris Dahlberg and Julianne Ortman’s staffs continue to champion for their candidates as they hope to gain the Republican endorsement to run against Al Franken.

State Sen. Dave Thompson and former Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives Kurt Zellers are two front-running Republicans seeking the party endorsement to run against Gov. Mark Dayton.

Republican 6th District Chairman Luke Yurczyk was one of the speakers Saturday as well as prominent members of the party including, Rep. Jim Newberger, Sen. Dave Brown and others. The proposed rules of the convention were read, discussed and voted on, temporary chairs for committees were nominated and approved, filing of delegates were advocated, the treasurer’s report was read and election of 14 state convention delegates (with alternates) and 14 District 6 delegates (with alternates were performed.

A bastion of common sense conservatism, Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District has been represented by the GOP for over 70 of its 114 years in existence. With leadership from Congressmen like Charles Lindbergh, Harold Knutson and Vin Weber, to Rod Grams, Mark Kennedy and Michele Bachmann today, the 6th has been in the forefront of the movement to protect ones natural rights and ensure the continued prosperity of this great nation.

Saturday’s meeting was well attended by many constituents from all area communities, eager to promote economic prosperity, preserve civil rights, educate children, strengthen families and communities, protect public safety, strengthen the rule of law, enjoy and protect natural resources, make government smaller and better and defend America at home and abroad.

The City of Becker was well represented by Adam Oliver and Rick Hendrickson and kudos goes out to Shelly Mattson of Hunter’s Ridge at Pebble Creek for a smooth convention.
